Many have asked what is the status of our trip to Haiti and what isgoing on there. To date thee have been no commercial flights to Haiti. We had a group of 6 volunteers scheduled to go on a dental mission to Baudin, Haiti on Jan. 22. The flight was cancelled and we were rebooked on Jan 26. That flight was cancelled and we were rebooked on Jan 29. That flight was cancelled and we were rebooked Feb 4. That flight was also cancelled.
The latest info that we have is that commercial flight may resume Feb 19. The military is controlling the air traffic and airport and all flights are dependent on their approval and evaluation of priorities.
In our community in Baudin there has been severe damage to the church, rectory, secondary school, and 5 of the seven outlying chapels.
Working with St. Thomas Aquinas in Indiana there are engineers going to Baudin to assess the damage and make recommendations. They plan on going through the Dominican Republic and then by truck into Haiti and to Baudin. It is a 13 hour difficult truck ride.
Presently the priest, house staff and many others are living outside in makeshift tents.
We have bee able to wire money to assist in the relief.
